Rapids field

The rapids field of the Kukkolankoski rapids is included in the listing of “Built cultural heritage sites of national significance” by The Finnish Heritage Agency. Both on the Finnish and the Swedish sides of the river there is a rapids field with old buildings connected to the fishing heritage: storage sheds, grilling hut and a fish shed.

In the Kukkolankoski rapids area there is also the Myllynpirtti house, working as a summer cafe. It used to be the home of the miller.

Closer to the river there is a grilling lean-to where anyone can grill their sausages and enjoy the river view.

Storage sheds

A row of red sheds stands on one side of the rapids field. The buildings were originally built for storing fishing equipment. Still today dipnets and traps are stored in the sheds.

The fish shed borders the rapids field on the northern side. It is used for storing fish for a short time. With the grilling hut the fish shed forms the heart of the built cultural environment of Kukkolankoski rapids.
