The whitefish rests in the hideaways of the rapids on it’s journey upstream. A fisherman directs his dipnet along the river bed, feels the fish in his fingers and brings it above the surface with his tool.
Valkamaa is the spot at the rapids where one gets close to the traditional fishing culture in practice: fishermen doing their work, dipnets and other equipment, piers reaching out to the river… Sit down and take a moment to familiarize yourself with the local tradition! The fishermen are always happy to have a chat.
In the autumn and in the winter this is the spot to witness lamprey and burbot fishing as well.
